This workshop will be based on working from direct observation and photo reference.  Attention will be given to painting techniques using a variety of painterly effects and learning different methods in the application of oil and/or pastel medium. Instruction will include discussion on painterly concepts and how these concepts help the artist set up portraits, and how to evaluate the usage of light, structure, space, and context from a painting’s start to completion. Practical problems will be designed to help each student see in ways that develop tangible painting skills. Students will become familiarized with the painting process by in-studio practice. This workshop is open to all levels.
